Will The Perfect Fuel For Our Cars or Trucks Ever Be Found?

At one time, diesel engine automobiles were popular because the diesel fuel was less costly than regular gas. But the rates for all varieties of fuel are rising so many people are concerned. At the moment the price of diesel fuel is more than gasoline. A lot of the leading scientists, technologists and environmentalists are searching for new and better alternatives to fossil fuels.

The diesel engine was initially set up to run on peanut oil or vegetable seed oil but that never happened considering that petroleum was still much cheaper. It appeared that people didn't fully understand that these engines could use regular cooking oil. In today's world, biodiesel fuels are being manufactured by using soybean oil, vegetable oil, animal fats and unwanted restaurant grease. B20 is often a combination of 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel, and this fuel can run any diesel vehicle. The good thing about biodiesel is normally the oils are biodegradable, and has low particulate emissions.

A byproduct of petroleum processing is a product called LPG or liquefied petroleum gas, and it is widely used for cooking and home heating, and can be used instead of diesel fuel. When compared with other kinds of petroleum products, LPG is the most affordable. Using a conversion set up, LPG, which is principally propane, can be used as an alternative fuel, and it is widely available. Another biodegradable and renewable energy resource is ethanol. It burns cleanly and so it isn't going to give off greenhouse gases. There is a fuel called E85 which is comprised of 15% gasoline and 85% alcohol and can be used in any diesel engine. When compared with various other alternative fuels, the price of E85 is usually higher.

Another option is cars that operate on electricity but they have a couple of problems. The life cycle of battery is definitely not very long, and they are not fast enough for interstate traffic. Even so, there's a sports car, named the Tesla that is very fast and can go far on 100% pure electricity. Regardless of the excellent improvement in electric cars, they have not sold well because of the high prices. Any time people aren't prepared to go electric, at least buying a hybrid is the next best thing. They're a combination, using both a gasoline engine and an electric motor. They are more expensive than a typical car, but are really the best you are going to find for fuel mileage.

One can find benefits and drawbacks for all of the alternative fuels. But attempts are moving forward to improve and to make them more viable for the consumer market. Someday down the road there'll be alternative fuels running any vehicle.
