Step one is to study the power strip that connects your computer's cord directly into a continuous power source, such as a wall outlet. The power strip is your first line of defense against bursts of electricity that are higher than the normal 120 volts your computer uses. A power strip feeds the proper amount of juice into a computer.
Many people who buy laptops for the first time thinks they can operate the same without their power supply component; till the same becomes defective due to power surge. After that they never take such a risk.
The next choice would be the AC power adaptor, that helps to feed regulated power to your computer. This adaptor converts the alternating current available in most wall sockets, to direct current that your computer will use to power your laptop and at the same time charge the laptop battery.
Step three of your electrical umbilical system is the female adapter. This is the connector between the power cord and your laptop computer. It sends the current to your computer's main electrical system, or mother board. This connector not only gives your mother board its electricity, it also charges the computer's internal battery.
Another important hardware of the computer is the cooling fan. The cooling fan ensures that the computer does not over heat and burn out any of the components inside your laptop or make it switch off at odd times.

As you upgrade your processor, be sure you bump up the power of your cooling fan as well. You want to be able to balance the heat generation with a way of dropping the temperature.
Maintaining the fan intake on your laptop and keeping it free from dust or other debris is very important in prolonging the life of the laptop. Without a constant intake of air, a laptop is not able to cool down which can cause damage and power problems.
