All About Soldering Paste

Fixing broken jewellery is not that tough. Oftentimes, people think it is hard and only the people at the jewellery store can do it. But that's not accurate. You can do it on your own. Having your jewelry corrected by somebody else will simply cost a bunch of cash, so it's way better if you find out how to do it yourself.

If you have broken jewellery at home, don't just throw it away or leave it for a considerable time at the base of some drawer. With the help of a soldering gun, you can fix it and cause it to look as new again. Here are the steps on the best way to fix broken jewellery :

1.Put the broken pieces together so you would have a concept where you must apply the glue or soldering paste. You could need to ask help from another person to hold the pieces together firmly for you so there wouldn't be any type of movement.

2.Prepare the soldering gun. Plug it in and wait for 1 or 2 minutes till it is hot enough to be used. Have a pickle pot prepared. It can be an old coffee pot which you'd need to as container for your pickle solution once you start cleaning your jewellery. Pickle solutions you can buy in stores contain powerful acids like nitric acid or sulfuric acid. You can make your own by mixing one teaspoon of salt and one little spoon of vinegar. You can try a mix of one gallon of water and half a cup of sodium bisulfate. Do not forget to put a lid on your pickle pot all the time.

3.Using an old toothbrush dipped in some liquid cleaner, scrub the broken areas of your jewellery. Other choices are water and soap, and alcohol. This is done to be sure the edges are free of imperfections so that the soldering paste would work better. Otherwise, it would not stick. Dry the jewellery with a soft material or linen.

4.Prepare a borax flux mix by pouring one tablespoon of borax into a container with a bit of water. Ensure that the result would be something like a paste so that the end result would be even and seamless. With a brush, apply some quantity of the blend to the damaged bits of the jewelry.

5.You can now start soldering. Hold the gun properly and place soldering silver chips on the damaged jewellery. Let them melt and fuse the damaged pieces together. Leave it undisturbed for a short while before dipping it into your pickle solution for a few seconds.

If it is your first go to do that, the result may not be that good. All you need is practice. Also, do not forget to properly dispose the chemicals you are not going to use anymore. Make sure that you do this job in a correctly ventilated area and you are wearing spectacles as protection for your eyes.
