Is Your Electric Bill Almost As Much As Your Mortgage?

Getting your electric bill can be an unsettling experiences. Even if you've tried to save, you might not have thought of a few tips. Conservation is really easy if this is something you want to do. It does require a conscious effort of the entire family. Let's take a look at a few ways to save.

During the summer season, keeping your thermostat above 80 and using fans can bring huge savings. Fans move the air and make it feel cooler. Make sure you check that your ceiling fan is indeed blowing down and not up. You should use the up mode in the winter when you want to drag down the warm air from the ceiling. You can save up to $600 a year if you sue fans properly.

If you're not at home, turn off the air conditioner. There is no reason to cycle air when you are not there. You can just turn it on when you get home.

Clean is cool. You shouldn't forget to change your AC filters at least once a month. Your AC doesn't work as good when the filters are dirty. Clean the registers in all rooms including the intake register. If a room is unused, it is best to close the register. A cool shower can also make you feel a lot cooler.

Shade your outside condenser and save up to 10% on electric usage but make sure the shrubs or grass are not blocking the intake panels.

Make sure your duct work is intact. The older it is the more likely it leaks. Check the temperature in the attic. Your attic should be insulated to prevent the loss of cool air. Also, consider installing an attic fan. If you can decrease the attic temperature by ten degrees, you can save 10% on your electric bill.

You should switch to fluorescent light bulbs. An incandescent bulb is like a mini heater that produces light. Fluorescent bulbs are designed to be cooler. They give off 90% light and 10% heat. And they are far more durable.

Paint the outside of your home a light color that reflects heat. Houses painted dark attract heat up to 20% more and increase the need to cool. Installing window film also helps keep the house cool but use the kind that reflects heat without blocking the light.

Wash dishes only when you have a full load. You can also let your dishes air dry and avoid the dry heat cycle. It is also best to wash clothes in full loads. You can use clothes lines to save money and to make your clothes smell better.

Turn off energy using appliances when you are not using them, and employ space heaters and fans. Why heat and cool what you're not using? You might not think the savings are much, but all adds up. Conserve energy and save money. You can bet your money on it.

Take a few minutes to check cheap electricity and discover a deal.
