Conductive coatings are used in a variety of applications in the aero-space, computer, communications, solar power cells and other industries. Applications are essentially used in electromagnetic shielding, which blocks outside interference in the form of radio waves, static discharges, and magnetic fields. The shielding material is mostly spray applied in a thin conductive film consisting of a very conductive metal like chrome, silver, platinum, palladium, copper, gold or a material with magnetic properties. Conductive coating might be sprayed using a vehicle solution of lacquer, shellac, or even applied as a molten liquid by a method known as sputtering. Sputtering in a vacuum produces no bi-products and is green. Systems of application are varied depending upon the base material.

Earlier techniques used conductive liquid paint, better methods have developed using heat proof nylon and thermoset conductive powder coatings or mixing low thermal threshold powder coatings with low thermal plastics.

Private electronic gadgets such as telephones, PCs and other hand-held devices are getting smaller and more subject to outside electronic interference. Without conductive coating shielding, using your private device in a crowed office or caf would be tricky. Infrequently many of us have experienced cross talk on our telephone as a consequence of breakdown in electro-magnetic shielding.
